The Peoples Democratic Party suffered another setback in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday April 16, 2025 as one of the major Stakeholder defected to the All Progressives Congress.
This is just as in a significant political shift, which saw over 20, 000 Peopls Democratic Pary (PDP) supporters defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in a Unity Rally held at Old Parade ground in Abuja FCT, the Nation’s Capital has been agog with the news which came like a thunder bolt.
The massive defection was led by the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, alongside all 12 councillors and numerous political allies across AMAC 12 wards.
Among those that defected is a former councillor under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chairman North Central Zone PDP FCT, Hon. Suleiman Muhammed. His decision to join the All Progressive Congress (APC), citing the remarkable achievements of the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Reflecting on his years in politics, the former councillor expressed admiration for the progress witnessed under Maikalangu’s administration. He said, “During my tenure in the council until 2010, I never saw projects like those implemented in the last two years. Hon. Maikalangu has elevated AMAC through both infrastructure and human development initiatives. His leadership is truly transformative.”
Hon. Suleiman said another reason he joined APC was influenced by the party’s growing dominance in the North Central Zone, where five out of six governors are APC members. “The North Central is sending a clear message to the rest of Nigeria. By joining APC, I aim to align the Federal Capital Territory with this unified voice and contribute to securing the presidency for the region after Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2031,” they added.
Suleiman expressed confidence that the political experience and calibre of the defectors would boost the strength of the entire APC family in the FCT. This move underscores his commitment to advancing AMAC’s development and supporting the APC’s vision for the future.
“I urge you to remain with APC and feel free to contribute to the best of your capacity for the development of the APC in Abuja”.
